Ingredients:
2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour
2 tsp baking powder
½ tsp baking soda
¼ tsp salt
½ cup (115 g) unsalted butter, softened
¾ cup (150 g) granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
Zest of 2 oranges
½ cup (120 ml) freshly squeezed orange juice
½ cup (120 ml) plain yogurt or sour cream
1 cup (170 g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
Optional: powdered sugar or orange glaze for topping
Instructions:
Prep the oven & pan
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan (or line with parchment paper).
Mix dry ingredients
In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
Cream butter & sugar
In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 2–3 minutes).
Add eggs & flavor
Beat in eggs one at a time.
Add vanilla extract and orange zest.
Add liquids
Mix in orange juice and yogurt (or sour cream). The batter may look slightly curdled — that’s okay!
Combine with dry ingredients
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
Fold in chocolate chips
Gently fold in the chocolate chips, reserving a few to sprinkle on top.
Bake
Pour batter into the prepared pan.
Sprinkle remaining chocolate chips on top.
Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cool & serve
Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with orange glaze if desired.
