Why do we get up at night to pee?

During the day, when standing, fluid accumulates in the legs due to gravity. This phenomenon can worsen with poor venous return, heavy legs, or even early heart failure.

When we sleep at night, the redistribution of these fluids throughout the body allows the blood to be filtered more efficiently by the kidneys. The result: more urine is produced at night… and therefore more frequent trips to the bathroom.
So should we be concerned about our health?

It’s perfectly normal to worry when you get up to pee more often at night, especially if it’s become a habit. While this phenomenon is usually harmless, in some situations it can also indicate a deeper imbalance. The key is to learn to listen to your body… without giving in to excessive worry.
These are signals you shouldn’t ignore.
