Most of us ignore our skin, brushing off new spots or moles as “just normal.” But your skin can actually reveal serious health warnings—sometimes even before other symptoms appear. Learning the difference between harmless spots and potentially dangerous ones could literally save your life.
✅ Normal Moles
- Round or oval
- Evenly colored (tan, brown, or black)
- Flat or slightly raised
- Stay the same over time
Normal moles are common and usually harmless. But when they start to change, it’s time to pay attention.
🚨 Warning Signs: The ABCDE Rule
Doctors use the ABCDE rule to identify suspicious moles:
- A – Asymmetry: One half doesn’t match the other.
- B – Border: Irregular, blurred, or jagged edges.
- C – Color: Multiple shades (brown, black, red, white, or blue).
- D – Diameter: Larger than 6mm (about the size of a pencil eraser).
- E – Evolving: Any changes in size, shape, or color over time.
If a mole has one or more of these warning signs, it’s best to get it checked by a dermatologist.
