You’ve probably noticed those little black dots along the edges of car windows and windshields. Most people assume they’re just a design choice—but they actually have very specific functions.
1. They Protect the Glass
The dots are part of a ceramic frit band, a black enamel baked into the glass.
It protects the adhesive that holds the window in place from UV rays.
Without it, sunlight would weaken the glue over time, and the glass could loosen.
